Justin Herbert will not play against the Broncos in the Week 18 game. Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh states that health and winning are the team’s main priorities as they prepare for the playoffs.
Chargers Focused on Health Over Playoffs
The Chargers are currently the No. 6 seed in the AFC playoffs and have various scenarios for playoff seeding. Harbaugh expressed that the team isn’t concerned about which seed they secure or who they will face in the Wild Card Round.
He stated, “Health and winning, that’s it,” emphasizing the unpredictability of the playoffs. The Chargers might still contend for the Nos. 5, 6, or 7 seeds and could meet six different teams in the opening round.
Team’s Performance and Improvement Goals
In their last game, the Chargers fell to the Texans in a close 20-16 matchup. Harbaugh noted that some unusual mistakes contributed to this loss, but he praised the team’s tenacity and effort throughout the game.
He identified issues in offense, defense, and special teams, pointing out that they missed opportunities in the red zone and allowed unexpected long touchdown passes. Kicker Cameron Dicker also missed a field goal and an extra point, which are notably uncharacteristic.
Appreciation for Fan Support
Although the Chargers couldn’t secure a win against the Texans, Harbaugh thanked the fans for their support during the game. He remarked on how the crowd’s energy contributed to the team’s late-game efforts.
Herbert echoed this sentiment, describing the home crowd as amazing and expressing appreciation for the community’s backing. He acknowledged the crowd’s support and noted the unique atmosphere created by passionate Chargers fans.
