Apple has issued press releases on October 14 and 15, 2025, unveiling three new products powered by the M5 chip. The iPad Pro and Vision Pro updates focus on AI performance and user comfort, while the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro delivers improved battery life and graphics.
iPad Pro with M5 Chip
Apple’s eighth-generation iPad Pro features the M5 system-on-chip built on 3 nm process technology. The chip includes a 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, and a Neural Accelerator in each core for on-device AI acceleration up to 3.5× faster than the M4 model.[1][2][3] The iPad Pro is offered in two sizes:
- 11-inch Ultra Retina XDR OLED display, 120 Hz refresh rate, 1000 nits peak brightness.[2][1]
- 13-inch Ultra Retina XDR OLED display, same specifications.[4][2]
Connectivity options include the C1X modem for 5G speeds up to 50 percent faster, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread support. Battery life remains at 10 hours. Pricing starts at $999 (11-inch) and $1 299 (13-inch). Pre-orders began October 15, with shipments on October 22, 2025.[3][1][2]
Vision Pro Update
The Vision Pro headset now runs on the M5 chip alongside the existing R1 processor. M5 enhances spatial rendering and AI workflows with hardware-accelerated ray tracing and mesh shading, and supports external refresh rates up to 120 Hz. Display resolution increases by 10 percent per micro-OLED panel.[5][6][7]
Comfort improvements include a Dual Knit Band head strap, replacing previous straps for a better fit, and a new Space Black finish in addition to silver. VisionOS 26 brings interactive widgets, spatial apps, and immersive environments. Pre-orders opened October 15; in-store availability starts October 22, 2025.[6][7][5]
14-Inch MacBook Pro Powered by M5
The new 14-inch MacBook Pro is Apple’s first laptop with the base M5 chip. It offers up to 3.5× faster on-device AI performance and 1.6× faster graphics versus M4, enabled by a 10-core GPU and 16-core Neural Engine.[8][9][10]
Key features:
- 14-inch Liquid Retina XDR display.
- Up to 24 hours of battery life (world-record for notebooks).[11][8]
- Six-speaker sound system and 12 MP Center Stage camera.
- Up to 4 TB SSD storage and 24 GB unified memory.
- Ports: three Thunderbolt 4, HDMI, SDXC card reader, MagSafe 3.[12][8][11]
Pricing begins at $1 599 in silver or Space Black. Pre-orders started October 15, with delivery on October 22, 2025.[10][8][11]
