Bing Microsoft Web Search Engine and AI-Powered Platform

Tag: bing

Bing is a web search engine owned and operated by Microsoft. Launched on June 3, 2009, it replaced the company’s earlier search brands Live Search, Windows Live Search, and MSN Search in a bid to challenge Google’s dominance.

Built on the Microsoft Search platform, Bing delivers algorithmic web results, image, video, news, and map queries, while integrating with Windows, Edge, and Office. Its daily changing homepage features high-resolution photographs that link to related searches, a design choice credited with lifting user engagement.

In 2020 Microsoft rebranded Bing’s commercial arm “Microsoft Advertising,” powering ads across Bing, Yahoo, and AOL. The engine also underlies Copilot, the AI-Powered chat interface based on OpenAI’s GPT models, allowing conversational queries and content generation.

Market share remains modest about 3 % globally yet Bing claims more than one billion monthly visits, fueled by Windows defaults and rewards programs that pay users for searches.
