Taylor Swift’s “The Life of a Showgirl” sold 2.7 million copies on its first day, making it the second-highest weekly sales for any album after just one day, according to Luminate’s report.
Record Sales Achieved on First Day
The album broke Swift’s personal sales record and surpassed previous numbers as well, only falling short of Adele’s “25,” which sold 3.4 million in its first week back in 2015. Swift still has six days to attempt to beat that record.
“The Life of a Showgirl” also set a record for the most vinyl copies sold in a week, reaching 1.2 million. Swift previously held this record with 859,000 copies of “The Tortured Poets Department” a year ago.
Details of Album Purchase Options
The album’s first-day sales included pre-orders delivered to retailers and customers on release day. All sales figures are for the U.S. only, as noted by Luminate.
Box Office Success of Theatrical Release
Swift’s theatrical event, “Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl,” also premiered this weekend in theaters, bringing in $15.8 million on its opening day.
This milestone adds to the high success surrounding her new album, indicating strong demand from fans.
