Capcom’s latest Resident Evil Showcase focused on the upcoming Resident Evil: Requiem, dropping hints about gameplay and new features. It wasn’t packed with revelations, but a few key points stood out, especially for fans eager for details and additional merchandise.
Game Mechanics and Options
The showcase revealed that Resident Evil: Requiem will offer three difficulty levels: Casual for story-focused players, Standard for balanced gameplay, and a unique Standard (Classic) mode. This Classic mode adds an extra challenge, requiring players to collect ink ribbons to save their progress.
Additionally, a new crafting mechanic relies on the blood of zombies, which players can obtain through combat. The main character, Grace, isn’t a natural fighter but uses her gun, aptly named Requiem, to fend off these threats.
Merchandise Galore and Special Collaborations
A significant portion of the showcase highlighted various merchandise linked to the game. Collaborations include watches from Hamilton, with only 2,000 made for Leon and Grace’s in-game designs. Other items include amiibos, a themed Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller, and figurines of the main characters. This part of the showcase might have felt a bit commercial, like a shopping channel segment, given the context.
Unique Zombie Features and Intriguing Mysteries
Unlike previous games, the zombies in Requiem display distinctive traits. Some zombies retain memories, like a custodian continuing to clean or one that pushes elevator buttons. The most shocking moment was when a zombie spoke coherently to Grace. This raises questions—Is there a new virus at play?
Another mystery involves “elpis,” a secret Leon possesses, hinting at connections to Grace’s mother’s murder. This element opens the door to speculation about its role in the unfolding story.
