Many bed rails sold at Walmart and Amazon are under a safety warning. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) advises stopping use due to safety risks linked to a fatal accident involving the product.

Consumer Safety Warning

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued an urgent warning for consumers to immediately stop using OasisSpace adult portable bed rails sold at Walmart, Amazon, and other platforms. This action follows a fatality and safety concerns related to the product.[1][4]

Reason for Warning

  • Bed rails pose an entrapment and asphyxiation hazard.
  • In October 2023, an 81-year-old woman in Ohio died after becoming trapped between an OasisSpace bed rail and the mattress.
  • The product fails to meet the federal Safety Standard for Adult Portable Bed Rails, creating a serious risk of injury or death.[4][1]

Affected Models

The CPSC warning covers four OasisSpace bed rail models, distributed by Gold Kernal LLC:

Model NumberDimensions (Height × Width)
F042Adjustable height 28.5 to 42 inches; 17 inches wide
F127Adjustable height 12 to 18 inches; 13 inches wide
G132Adjustable height 18 to 22 inches; 13 inches wide
G286About 16 inches high; 38 inches wide

The models vary in materials and features such as foam grips and fabric pouches.[1]

Sales and Availability

  • Approximately 86,100 units sold from July 2019 to February 2025.
  • Sold on OasisSpace.com, Amazon.com, Walmart.com, and by third-party sellers on sites like eBay.
  • Prices ranged between $30 and $108.
  • Manufactured in China.[4][1]

Manufacturer Response

Gold Kernal LLC has not issued an official recall and has not offered remedies or replacements to consumers despite the safety notice and the fatal incident.[1][4]

What Consumers Should Do

  • Stop using the bed rails immediately regardless of when they were purchased.
  • Dispose of them safely; do not sell or give them away.
  • Report any injuries or product defects to the CPSC at www.SaferProducts.gov or call 800-638-2772.[4][1]
