Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez was stabbed and arrested in Indianapolis over the weekend during preparations to commentate a football game. The incident involved a confrontation with a truck driver.
Details of the Incident
The altercation began when Sanchez told the 69-year-old truck driver that he could not stop his vehicle where it was parked to collect used cooking oil from a hotel. Sanchez claimed to have spoken with the hotel manager about the situation.
Sanchez then entered the truck’s cab, despite the driver telling him he was not allowed inside. Reports indicate Sanchez appeared intoxicated and was persistent in his claims regarding the hotel manager.
Physical Confrontation Unfolds
Security footage captured Sanchez following the victim as he tried to alert a hotel security guard. The video shows Sanchez blocking the driver from entering his truck and pushing him backward.
The victim resorted to using pepper spray on Sanchez to defend himself, but Sanchez continued to advance, leading the victim to fear for his life and stab Sanchez “two or three times” in the chest.
Aftermath of the Stabbing
Sanchez later told police he could not remember the events after reaching for a window. In the hospital, he did not recognize his assailant or where the stabbing occurred.
Sanchez suffered critical injuries and was arrested on three misdemeanors: battery with injury, unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, and public intoxication. The truck driver was not arrested.
