Potential for significant tax revenue
Public review required before approval
Amazon plans to build a new retail development in Orland Park, a suburb of Chicago. The mayor announced this decision on Saturday.
Details of the proposed development
The proposed site spans 35 acres at the corner of 159th Street and LaGrange Road, where the former Petey’s II restaurant was located. The Plan Commission will discuss the proposal at a meeting on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The project includes a one-story retail building covering 225,000 square feet, with 837 parking spaces and seven loading docks. It will offer groceries and general merchandise, as well as dining options and online order pickup.
Local government perspectives on the project
Orland Park Mayor Jim Dodge stated that Amazon’s investment highlights the community’s appeal for major businesses. He stressed the importance of the project for generating tax revenue that will benefit local residents and improve infrastructure.
The proposal promises long-term financial support for municipal services, according to village officials. The plan must still undergo public review and receive approval.
Next steps for the proposal
Approval is still required before the project can proceed. Subsequent evaluations by the Village Board will happen at publicly advertised meetings after the Plan Commission’s decision.
Community involvement is encouraged, and residents will be informed about the project’s progress at future meetings.
