Actor Timothy Busfield has turned himself in on charges of sexually abusing two boys while filming a TV series in New Mexico. The charges include two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and one count of child abuse.
Details of the Charges
Busfield, known for roles in *Thirtysomething* and *The West Wing*, was arrested in Albuquerque. According to prosecutors, the alleged abuse occurred on the set of Fox’s *The Cleaning Lady*, which Busfield directs and produces.
His lawyer, Stanton “Larry” Stein, said the claims are false and that they will fight the charges. Stein suggested the accusations stem from the boys’ mother seeking revenge after her children were dismissed from the show.
New Allegations and Legal Proceedings
During a press briefing, Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman stated that Busfield’s initial court appearance took place on Wednesday. A hearing for bail will occur on January 20 as the case moves to district court.
Parents of the boys claim Busfield groomed and abused them. One boy reported inappropriate touching beginning at age seven, resulting in PTSD and anxiety. Additionally, a new accusation involves a 16-year-old girl, claiming Busfield kissed and groped her years ago.
Support for Busfield and Legal Representation
Busfield denies all allegations, asserting they are false. His lawyer noted that a prior investigation by Warner Bros found no evidence supporting the claims. The actor has previously faced similar accusations in the 1990s.
Warner Bros Television and Fox are aware of the charges and are cooperating with law enforcement. Busfield’s wife, Melissa Gilbert, is supporting him and is currently focused on family matters as legal proceedings unfold.
