Five Amazon Basics Products That Are Cheaper to Buy Elsewhere

Don’t Overpay for These Amazon Basics Items

Some Amazon Basics products are cheaper at other retailers. Here are five items where you can save money.

  • High prices on common items
  • Better deals at Walmart, Target, Dollar Tree
  • Sugar costs more on Amazon
  • Freezer bags are pricier than Walmart’s
  • Glass cleaner cheaper at Walmart
  • Cotton swabs cost less at Dollar Tree
  • White vinegar is a poor buy on Amazon

Amazon often offers convenience, but it doesn’t always have the best prices. Comparing prices with retailers like Walmart, Target, and Dollar Tree shows that some everyday items are cheaper elsewhere.

Higher Prices on Everyday Items

Amazon can have good deals, but some staples are more expensive on the site. For example, a 4-pound bag of Great Value granulated sugar at Walmart costs $3.07, while similar sugar on Amazon can exceed double that price, depending on the brand.

Gallon-size freezer bags from Amazon Basics also miss the mark. Walmart’s price for their Great Value bags is $4.96, making them about 6 cents each, while Amazon’s bags roughly cost 11 cents each.

Affordable Alternatives at Other Stores

For glass cleaner, Amazon offers two bottles of its Basics for $5.17, averaging about 8 cents per ounce. In contrast, Walmart sells single bottles of Great Value glass cleaner for $1.48, costing between 4 and 5 cents per ounce—clearly a better deal.

Cotton swabs are another example. Dollar Tree has a fantastic deal with 300-count Assured cotton swabs for $1.25 (about 4 cents each), while Amazon offers a 500-count package for $2.78 (around 6 cents each).

Limited Value in Certain Products

White vinegar, often used in cleaning, is another item where Amazon falls short. A gallon of Iberia distilled white vinegar costs $9.29 on Amazon (around 7 cents per ounce). In comparison, Target sells a gallon of Good & Gather white distilled vinegar for $2.99 (about 5 cents per ounce).

Shoppers can often find better prices for everyday items at other retailers than on Amazon.
