Rescue efforts continue for about 200 hikers stuck on Mount Everest after a severe snowstorm. Local villages and guides are joining the rescue teams to help them reach safety.
Rescue Teams Mobilized for Stranded Hikers
A woman from Shenzhen contacted authorities after her husband, on a 12-day trek, called for help on October 5. He and his group were trapped in heavy snow at Oga Campsite in the Karma Valley.
Local county police confirmed that hikers had reported their situation and that rescue teams were being sent. Clearing paths in the snow has proven challenging for rescuers.
Challenges Faced by Stranded Groups
The husband described how snow kept piling up on their tent, causing anxiety about its collapse. His group spent the night shaking off snow, with fears of being buried if they fell asleep.
The next day, they attempted to retreat to Cuoxuerenma camp. Due to deep snow, they relied on yaks to navigate hidden gaps and clear the path, aided by a team of 16, including guides and yak handlers.
